Jimmy Savile & The Cavendish Arms

Classic gig at The Cavendish Arms in Stockwell yesterday night. Slap-bang in the middle of a pretty rough-looking Council Estate, it was a curious little venue. Behind the bar was a Punk sporting a huge pink mohican, on the counter was a photo of Jimmy Savile shaking hands with Elvis and in the back room was a guy on a unicycle playing an acoustic guitar. Very strange. The place did have a slightly David Lynch feel to it. Flock wall-paper, red velvet curtains. No dwarves though.

Anyway, the music venue out back was quite small and had a minature PA but the sound balance and quality was surprisingly very good. Nice atmosphere in there too. Thoroughly enjoyed it. My good mates Chris and Debbie were over from New Zealand (they’ve come back to get married!) and this was the first time they’d ever seen us play live and it was wonderful to see them up dancing to our music: “You rocked!”. And it was great to see American Brooke again, who first saw us perform at The FYM FYG bar last month. Nice one.

Ended up being a rather large night and I think we finally stumbled out of the venue well after 2am - having talked the bar staff into a lock-in. Quite a bit of dancing going on. A superbly off-the-wall evening. Very large hang-over this morning though…

And Debbie, no I don’t think Jimmy Saville looks anything like Leonard Cohen. And Bird on a Wire is not just a shite film starring Goldie Horne.
